FAQs

WHAT I DO

Can you help us set up a company in Australia?

Yes. This is my core work: company incorporation, foreign company registration, and director identification numbers for non-Australian residents.

How long does it take to set up an Australian company?

For a private company, one business day once I have full details for the directors and shareholders and the client identification checks are complete. Registering a foreign company takes longer because ASIC only accepts applications for registration as a foreign company by post.

Can you act on changes to our share capital?

Yes. I advise and implement share issuances and options, buy-backs, splits and consolidations, employee share schemes, and financial assistance compliance.

What transaction work do you handle?

I handle cross-border transactions from start to finish: term sheets, legal due diligence, business sales and purchases, share sales and purchases, share swaps, merger control notifications, and transactions involving warranty and indemnity insurance.

Can you help with our leases, staff, and customer contracts in Australia?

Yes. I act on commercial leases, employment agreements, and the contracts you will use with customers and suppliers.

Can you handle our ongoing company secretarial work?

Yes. I can act as your ASIC registered agent. I prepare resolutions, notices of meeting, share transfers, share certificates, and registers, and lodge ASIC filings.

Do we need an Australian resident director?

Yes. A private company must have at least one director who ordinarily resides in Australia. A foreign company registered in Australia must have a local agent instead.

Do you provide resident director, local agent, registered office, or mail handling services?

No. I can refer you to providers of these services.

Do you advise on laws outside Australia?

No. I practise Australian law only. If a matter involves the law of another country, I work alongside local counsel there.

HOW I WORK

Who will handle our matter?

I will. I run every matter personally, and I take on a limited number at a time.

How quickly do you respond?

I respond to new enquiries within one business day. I give you a delivery date when I take your instructions, and I prioritise work by legal deadline.

Do you use AI?

Yes. I use AI for speed and quality control, and I do not depend on it. I use only paid enterprise accounts that do not use your information to train models, and I check and finalise all work personally.

Do we need to meet in person?

No. I run matters by video call and email, and I attend in person where a matter calls for it, such as a negotiation or a completion.

Where are you located?

I work from Singapore and have a visiting office in Brisbane.

CONFIDENTIALITY AND REGULATION

How does lawyer-client confidentiality work?

Lawyer-client confidentiality protects everything you share with me, including before you engage me. I cannot and will not disclose it, except with your consent or where the law requires or permits it. My privacy policy explains how I handle personal information.

Are you regulated and insured?

Yes. I hold an Australian practising certificate issued by the Queensland Law Society, and I am registered with the Legal Services Regulatory Authority to practise Australian law in or from Singapore. I hold professional indemnity insurance in Australia and Singapore.

PRICING AND ENGAGEMENT

How do you charge?

For complex or ongoing work, I usually work on a time basis (at my current hourly rate of AUD 550). For smaller project work, I can provide you with a defined scope of work and fixed price, starting from AUD 3,000.

Do you provide initial consultations?

Yes. An initial consultation is AUD 1,100. It covers up to two hours: preparation, a video call, and a debrief email setting out next steps.

How can we engage you?

Please send an enquiry through the contact form. I respond to new enquiries within one business day. If I can help, I will send you an engagement letter setting out my proposed scope and pricing. Once you accept it and the client identification checks required by law are complete, I will start work.
